Why a website needs looking after at all
Every website runs on software, and security holes get found in software all the time. Automated programs scan the whole internet for sites that haven't been patched yet.
Nobody is after your business by name. That's true, and it's not the risk. The risk is being one address on a list of thousands, found by a program that never knew you existed.
So every month I update the software, check the security, and make sure the backups actually restore, whether or not anything looks wrong. You never see it, and that's the point.
